Serious Side Effects of Aggrenox
- intracranial hemorrhage, which causes severe bleeding in the brain that can lead to severe headache accompanied by drowsiness, confusion, altered memory, and loss of consciousness
- bleeding in the stomach or intestines, which exhibits symptoms such as stomach pain, heartburn, nausea, vomiting blood, vomit that resembles coffee grounds, red or bloody stools, and tar-like black stools
- allergic reaction which can cause the throat, mouth or face to swell, and can cause the appearance of rash or hives
- overdose, which causes flushed or warm feeling, sweating, weakness, dizziness, restlessness, increased heart rate, or ringing in the ears
- liver problems, even potential liver failure that can cause loss of appetite, pale colored stools, abdomen pain, jaundice of the skin or eyes, itching, or dark-colored urine
- the appearance or worsening of chest pain in patients who suffer from heart disease

Warnings & Recalls for Aggrenox
Aggrenox has been shown to cause an increased risk of bleeding which in some cases can be severe. Gastrointestinal bleeding has been shown to have a higher risk of occurrence in patients who have a history of alcohol abuse,
peptic ulcer, liver disease, or vitamin K deficiency.
Aspirin, which is contained in Aggrenox, has been shown to cause harm to an unborn fetus, and should not be used by patients who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
Patients with any of the following conditions should consult their doctor before using Aggrenox:
- kidney disease
- heart disease
- recent heart attack bleeding disorder
- low blood pressure
- vitamin K deficiency
- ulcers
- asthma
- rhinitis
- nasal polyps
Those who are using other medications, or who are having surgery should speak with their doctor before taking Aggrenox.
Aggrenox Treatment and Use
Aggrenox | aspirin and extended-release dipyridamole is an antiplatelet agent manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals as an oral capsule. Aggrenox prevents excessive blood clotting by interfering with the way platelets group together.
Aggrenox | aspirin and extended-release dipyridamole has been approved to reduce the risk of the following conditions in patients:
- Stroke in patients with a history of transient ischemia of the brain
- Previous stroke caused by thrombosis or blood clot
- Recurrence of stroke
Although Aggrenox decreases the risk of stroke, it does not completely eliminate it. Aggrenox should be used continuously, even if the patient feels well.
Side Effects of Aspirin
Aspirin, which is contained in Aggrenox, may cause serious problems, such as:
- increased bleeding, which is especially dangerous in patients with a history of bleeding disorders
- severe uricaria, or hives
- angioedema, or swelling which occurs below the surface of the skin
- bronchospasm
Pediatric or teenage patients who suffer from viral infections should also not use aspirin due to an increased risk for Reye syndrome.
