Diltiazem Treatment and Use
Diltiazem Angina Treatment
Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker medication used as an angina and hypertension treatment, as well as a treatment for the following:
- arrhythmia
- migraine prevention
- anal fissure (as an ointment)
Drugs related to diltiazem include Adalat and Procardia, as well as others. Diltiazem works by inhibiting calcium from moving through the muscle cells that line the heart and blood vessels. Calcium is used by muscles in order to contract. By keeping calcium from moving through the muscle cells, diltiazem keeps muscles from contracting or becoming rigid. This both slows down the pumping of blood and relaxes blood vessels.
