Serious Adverse Side Effects
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride has some very serious adverse side effects associated with it, such as:
- Cardiovascular side effects such as abnormal heartbeat and wide QRS complex, a disorder of the electrical activity of the heart
- Dermatological side effects such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a deadly skin allergic reaction to the drug
- Immunological side effects such as anaphylaxis, a deadly allergic reaction to the drug
- Neurological side effects such as seizure
- Psychiatric side effects such as exacerbation of depression, mania, psychotic disorders and suicidal thoughts

Black Box Warning
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride has an associated “black warning” attached to it that denotes that antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behaviors in children, teenagers and young adults in studies of major depression.
Contraindications
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride is contraindicated in the following patients:
- Patients who drink alcohol or use sedatives who are administered this drug are at a risk of seizures when they abruptly discontinue Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride
- Patients with bulimia or anorexia are at a higher risk of seizures
- Concurrent use with MAOIs or MAOI use within 14 days
- Concurrent use with ticlopidine or clopidogrel
- Concurrent use with other bupropion products
- Concurrent use with antipsychotics, other antidepressants, theophylline or systemic steroids
- Concurrent use with stimulants
- Hypersensitivity to bupropion or any other component of the drug
- Patients prone to seizures or who are epileptic
Precautions
Patients with the following preexisting conditions or issues probably should not use or be administered
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride:
- Patients with psychiatric disorders that transcend major depression or seasonal affective disorder but whose psychiatric issues are manic
- Patients who are suicidal
- Patients who are addicted to opiates, cocaine or stimulants
- Patients who drink alcohol
- Patients who are diabetic
- Patients with head injuries or central nervous system tumors
- Patients with liver damage or impairment
- Patients with high blood pressure
- Patients with kidney disease or impairment
Pregnancy Warning
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride has been given a pregnancy category grade of “C” by the FDA, entailing that it should be discontinued after knowledge of conception immediately as it poses a risk to the fetus.

How This Drug Works
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride is an aminoketone class antidepressant which weakly inhibits the neuron uptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. It however does not inhibit monoamine oxidase or the reuptake of serotonin.
Dosage Information
Forfivo XL | Bupropion Hydrochloride comes as a 450mg pill to take once per day and can be taken with or without food. The safety and efficacy of administering this drug to pediatric patients under the age of 18 has as of yet not been established.
