Macrodantin | nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic medication used to treat urinary tract infections. This medication is also sold under the names Furadantin and Macrobid. Macrodantin works by destroying bacteria sensitive to the antibiotic nitrofurantoin: E. Coli, enterobacter cystitis, enterococcus, klebsiella, and staphylococcus aureus. This medication, and others like it affect only bacteria, as such, it should not be used to treat viruses like the flu or common cold.
Macrodantin comes in tablet form and oral suspension (liquid). You should take Macrodantin (Nitrofurantoin) by mouth with food and as directed by your physician.
