Medrol Treatment and Use
Medrol | Methylprednisolone Oral is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation. It is used as a treatment for several complications including skin, kidney, thyroid, eye, intestinal, and eye disorders. It can also be used to treat certain types of arthritis, acute allergies, and asthma. In some cases, it is used as a treatment or cancer.
How does Medrol work?
The methylprednisole in Medrol mimics a hormone that adrenal glands produce. Medrol helps replace this hormone when the body is unable to make enough. When used in medications, it is used for its ability to reduce inflammation in the body’s organ systems.
Medrol Dosage Information
Doses of Medrol can range from 4mg to 48mg a day, variant on the patient and their symptoms. Patients should only take the minimum effective dose for their complications based on the prescription instructions of their physician.
Medrol Dose Pack – Dosage
Methlyprednisolone comes in a package designed to give six days of Medrol in steadily decreasing amounts. Day 1 provides 6 – 4mg. pills, Day 2 provides 5, Day 3 provides 4, etc. So that over six days a patient takes 24mg on day one and only 4 mg. on the final day.
Medrol should be taken with food or milk to decrease the effects of an upset stomach. Medrol commonly causes upset stomach if not taken with food.
If Medrol is to be taken for an extended period of time, dosage should be stopped gradually and only under the care and advice of a physician.
