Synagis Side Effects
Synagis | palivizmab side effects and adverse reactions include:
- irritation at injection site
- flu-like symptoms
- fever
- achiness
- cough
- swelling
- nausea or upset stomach
- crying in infants
Very rarely, Synagis | palivizumab may cause severe allergic reaction. If the treated individual experiences the following symptoms, seek treatment immediately:
- hives
- itchiness
- trouble breathing
- hoarseness
- ear pain or discharge
- palpitations
- fever
- chest tightness
- muscle weakness
- swelling of the lips, face, or tongue

Warnings & Recalls for Synagis
Synagis can only be given as an intramuscular injection. As with other intramuscular injections, use Synagis with caution in individuals who have a history of or predisposition to blood clots, coagulation problems, or
thrombocytopenia.
In 2002 the FDA sent Med Immune, Inc. a safety alert for medical products citing a change to the prescribing information that included an increased risk of
anaphylaxis, or severe allergic reaction.
Synagis Treatment and Use
Synagis | palivizumab, manufactured by MedImmune, Inc. is a monoclonal antibody used to prevent human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a virus that causes different types of respiratory tract infections. Synagis is primarily used on children and elderly individuals with pre-existing heart and lung conditions.
It is important to note that Synagis is only to be used for RSV prevention and will not treat an existing RSV infection.
How does Synagis work?
Synagis gives the treated individual a certain amount of anti-bodies that help to prevent occurrances of RSV during RSV season.

Synagis comes as a clear or mildly opalescent solution to be administered via an intramuscular injection shortly before the start of RSV season and once monthly through the duration.
