Warnings & Recalls for Venofer
- Venofer may cause significant hypotension (low blood pressure). Patients who recieve treatment for their iron deficiency anemia with Venofer should have their blood pressure monitored regularly.
- Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking, even over the counter drugs and herbal supplements, especially those containing iron.
- Taking iron supplements or too much iron while undergoing treatment with Venofer may result in iron overload.
Venofer Treatment and Use
Venofer | iron sucrose injection is a substance manufactured under license by American Regent Inc. This drug is used to replenish iron supplies in adult patients who suffer from iron deficiency anemia. It is especially indicated in the treatment of adults with chronic kidney disease who suffer from iron deficiency anemia.
Venofer works by helping individuals create healthy red blood cells by supplying needed iron in those with iron deficiency anemia.

Venofer administration
- Venofer is given in an office or clinical setting by a trained healthcare provider.
- This drug comes in the following strengths:
- 10 mL single use vial / 200 mg elemental iron (20 mg/mL)
- 5 mL single use vial / 100 mg elemental iron (20 mg/mL)
- 2.5 mL single use vial / 50 mg elemental iron (20 mg/mL)
- Venofer may be given directly by push injection or by IV infusion.
