Adderall Treatment and Use
Adderall | dextroamphetamine and amphetamine is a combination of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine that is used to control the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. The drug was originally produced by Shire, but generic versions of Adderall are manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals and Global Pharmaceuticals under the name “amphetamine salts.”
It is believed that Adderall, both a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, works by increasing the amount of dopamine and norapinephrine in between synapses in the brain. This in turn (is thought to), allows those who take the medication to be relieved of the symptoms of their ADHD or Narcolepsy.
How to take Adderall
Adderall comes in both an extended (XR) and immediate (IR) release formula. Adderall IR is used to treat both ADHD and narcolepsy. Adderall XR is only used to treat ADHD.
You should take Adderall on an empty stomach, and without acidic beverages as doing so delays absorption of the drug into the system.
The usual starting dose of Adderall is 10 mg for adults and 5 mg for children though it is best to follow closely your doctor’s dosing recommendations. Your doctor will take into account your age, weight, medical history and other factors in making a decision for your Adderall dose. If you have any questions about your particular dose of Adderall, ask your doctor at once.
