Advair Diskus is indicated for the following conditions in patients who are 4 years of age or older:
- prevention and treatment of asthma
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), by preventing obstruction of the airways
Fluticasone is a corticosteroid, which prevents the swelling in the airways that can make breathing easier. Salmetrol is an anti-inflammatory that treats the constriction of the patient’s airways. As a combination, they treat symptoms of asthma and COPD such as coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing. Advair is not meant as a replacement for a rescue inhaler.
