- changes in heart beat: decrease in rate or abnormal rate
- trouble breathing, shortness of breath
- feeling faint or passing out
- eye irritation, inflammation or redness
- feeling numb or tingly
- severe allergic reaction: hives, rash, swelling of the mouth, tongue, throat, eyes or face and difficulty breathing

- feeling as if something is in your eye
- changes in vision: increased sensitivity to light or blurry vision
- reddening of the eye or eyelid, minor swelling

- dryness of the mouth or nostrils, or unusual taste in mouth

Alphagan P and Pregnancy
Alphagan P is an FDA
pregnancy Category B medicine. Alphagan P is
not known to cause harm to the fetus if used during pregnancy. It is unknown if Alphagan P may pass through breast-milk to a nursing baby.
Do not breastfeed without consulting your doctor first if you are using Alphagan P. If you are
pregnant or
planning on becoming pregnant, let your doctor know before starting treatment with Alphagan.
General Warnings
Alphagan P
should not be used by patients who:
- are allergic to Alphagan P or other medicines for lowering eye pressure
- are using any MAO inhibitors or are using furazolidone as a treatment
Before beginning use of Alphagan P as a treatment,
ask your doctor if it is safe to use if you have:
- any allergies
- kidney or liver disease
- any heart or circulation disorders
- a history of passing out
- low blood pressure
- ever been depressed
Alphagan P Interactions
Let your healthcare provider know if you are taking
any other medications, vitamins, supplements or herbal products, especially high blood pressure medicines. The following may interact with Alphagan P:
- pain relievers
- anxiety medicines
- monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors
- tricyclic antidepressant medications
Avoid taking any drugs or medications that may increase your drowsiness while using Alphagan P and use caution when taking part in anything that requires you to be alert.
Alphagan P Treatment and Use
Alphagan P | Brimonidine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist medication marketed by Allergan Inc. for treating open-angle glaucoma or high eye pressure. Alphagan is used for decreasing high pressure in the eye and reducing the risk of vision loss or damage. Alphagan P was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in September of 1996
Alphagan P is not for patients under the age of 2.
How Does Alphagan P Work?
Alphagan P works by attaching to receptors in the eye to interfere with signals. Alphagan P reduces the amount of fluids produced by the eye and helps the eye to drain properly and more efficiently.
How to Use Alphagan P
Alphagan P comes in the form of an eye drop solution. Take contact lenses out before applying Alphagan P. Use Alphagan P only as instructed by your doctor to prevent eye irritation or health hazards. To use Alphagan P:
- check solution to be sure that there are no foreign objects or particles in it and that it has not changed colors. If it has or if it does contain particles, do not use Alphagan P.
- lean your head back and pull down on your lower eyelid gently and pull it away from your eyes
- look upward and squeeze one drop into your eye using the dropper, do not touch your eye with the dropper
- gently close your eyes and with one finger press on the inner corner of the eye for one minute
If you will be using any other eye medicines, wait 5 minutes after applying Alphagan P.
To avoid contamination of the dropper which could result in an eye infection if used in the future, do not let the dropper tip come in contact with any objects or surface.
You may put your contact lenses back in 15 minutes after treatment.
