Americaine Precautions

Pregnancy, Fertility and Nursing: It is not known whether Americaine has an effect on fertility or poses a danger to pregnant women or nursing mothers. Use with caution and only under necessity. Those who have a history of methemoglobinemia should not use Americaine, and those with past or current breathing disorders like asthma, emphysema or bronchitis, heart disease, enzyme deficiencies and past smoking habits should consult with a physician before using this medication.

What is Americaine?

Americaine | Benzocaine Topical is a local anesthetic used to reduce minor pain or discomfort on various surfaces of the body.

How does it work?

Americaine relieves pain or itching by blocking nerve signals to the brain in order to numb the skin.

How to take Americaine

Americaine may come in the form of a spray, gel or ointment. Apply a thin layer to affected area no more than three to four times daily.

This medication should only be used on the surface of skin, or inside the mouth, vagina and rectum. Avoid contact with eyes and swallowing the medication while applying it inside the mouth. Throat spray can however be swallowed gradually.

Patients should avoid applying any other creams or ointments to the same area while using this medication unless told to do so by a physician. After use on the inside of the mouth, patients should avoid eating for at least 1 hour.
