Armour Treatment and Use
Armour | thyroid USP is a thyroid agent manufactured by Forest Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of ongoing hypothyroidism. Although Armour has not received approval from the FDA it is still prescribed to patients as a supplemental therapy or replacement thyroid hormone for patients who suffer from an underactive thyroid.
How does Armour Work?
Athough the mechanism for action of Armour is not entirely understood, this medication is thought to work by stimulating the production of specific thyroid hormones, known as T3 and T4. Armour contains the processed thyroid glands of pigs, which are rich in T3 and T4, and are used to substitute thyroid hormone in the bodies of patients who suffer from thyroid hormone deficiencies.
