Bydureon Side Effects - Serious
Consult a physician immediately if you should experience any of these side effects:
- Pancreatitis symptoms such severe and persistent stomach pains from the abdomen to the back, with or without vomiting
- Thyroid cancer or tumor symptoms, including lump or swelling in the neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing or shortness of breath
- Kidney failure caused by dehydration
- Hypersensitivity symptoms such as swelling, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing, faintness or dizziness or rapid heatbeat
- Low blood sugar symptoms such as shakiness, drowsiness, weakness, jitters, confusion, irritability, sweating, headache or hunger
Bydureon Side Effects - Common
- Gastrointestinal complications such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion
- Symptoms at injection site such as itching, irritation, a small raised bump

Warning for the Powder-Suspension, Extended Release form of Bydureon:
The extended release form of this drug causes thyroid C-cell tumors at clinically relevant exposures in rats. It is not yet known whether Exenatide has the same effect on humans.
Family Planning Warning
Bydureon is a FDA pregnancy category C drug, meaning it is unknown whether this drug will harm an unborn baby or pass into breast milk.
General Warning
Patients considering Bydureon are advised to inform their doctors if they have the following conditions:
- kidney disease or kidney transplant
- problems with digestion
- a history of pancreatitis or gall stones
- a history of alcoholism
- a history of high triglycerides

Bydureon | Exenatide is a medication, administered by injection, which helps control blood sugar in order to treat type 2 diabetes.
How does Bydureon Work?
Bydureon | Exenatide is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Bydureon | Exenatide works by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Bydureon | Exenatide also helps to decrease the appetite.
Bydureon | Exenatide is not used to treat type 1 diabetes
Dosage and Administration Information
Bydureon | Exenatide is administered through injections, usually injected twice a day. It can be administered any time of day, with or without meals in it’s extended release form. The immediate release form must be given within a 60 minute period before the morning and evening meals, or before the two main meals of the day, approximately 6 hours apart from each other.
