Caduet has been shown to cause a rare but serious condition known as
rhabdomyolysis which can cause kidney failure. If you have a history of renal impairment, alert your doctor so that you can be closely monitored to avoid this side effect.Caduet is contraindicted in patients who suffer from liver disease, or in patients who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or those who are breastfeeding.
Myopathy may occur while taking Caduet, and patients who suffer from any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness should alert their doctor immediately.Patients taking Caduet should avoid alcohol, and food that are high in fat or cholesterol, as these can interfere with the effectiveness of this medication.
Caduet Treatment and Use
Caduet | amlodipine and atorvastatin is an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor, or “statin”, medication manufactured by Pfizer as an oral tablet. Caduet uses two medications:
- Lipitor | atorvastatin, a lipid-lowering agent that decreases LDL cholesterol and improves HDL cholesterol.
- Norvasc | amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker which relaxes blood vessels, improves blood flow, and lessens the strain on the heart.
Caduet | amlodipine and atorvastatin is indicated for the treatment of the following:
- High blood pressure
- Angina
- Coronary artery disease
- To lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when combined with a low-fat diet
Caduet is also used to decrease the risk of certain conditions, such as heart attack, stroke, heart surgery, and chest pain in patients who suffer from heart disease or diabetes.
