Ciprodex Otic and Pregnancy
Ciprodex Otic is an FDA pregnancy Category C medicine. It has not been determined if it is safe to take Ciprodex Otic during pregnancy or if it may be harmful to a fetus. It is unknown if Ciprodex Otic may be transferred through breastmilk. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Ciprodex Otic.

Ciprodex Otic should not be used by anyone who is allergic to ciproflaxin and dexamethasone otic. This medicine may not be safe to take for patients who have had an allergic reaction to antibiotics or other steroids. Let your doctor know about any allergies you may have to ensure that you may safely use Ciprodex Otic. Notify your doctor about any other medications, vitamins or supplements you are taking to avoid interactions. Patients should be aware that ear infections may have side effects of dizziness and may result in difficulty balancing. Take caution when driving or operating machinery until the infection has ended.

Ciprodex Otic| Ciproflaxin and dexamethasone otic is a steroid and fluoroquinolone antibiotic combined ear drop marketed by Alcon for treating ear infections. Ciprodex Otic aids in fighting bacterial infections of the ear while simultaneously reducing inflammatory responses induced by the infection.
How Does Ciprodex Otic Work?
Ciprodex fights bacterial infections by preventing the growth of certain proteins which are needed for bacteria formation. Dexamethasone reduces side effects of the ear infection by decreasing inflammation and soreness.
How to Use Ciprodex Otic
Ciprodex Otic comes in the form of an ear drop solution. It is generally recommended that Ciprodex Otic be used as a one drop dose, twice each day (every 12 hours).Use only the amount prescribed to you by your doctor. To prevent dizziness, hold Ciprodex Otic in your hands to make sure the solution is warm. Shake the solution before use. If possible, have another person administer the solution to make sure it gets into the ear canal. To use the ear drops:
- lay on your side while holding your ear lobe back
- squeeze the prescribed amount of drops into the ear canal of the affected ear
- wait one full minute before moving so that the solution may run into the canal
Be sure not to let the dropper come in contact with any surface; this contact may result in contamination of the solution. After instilling Ciprodex Otic avoid getting water in the ear, particularly when bathing. Your doctor may recommend that you do not swim until your treatment has been completed.
