Combivir Side Effects
Combivir | lamivudine and zidovudine has been shown to cause common side effects such as
- headache
- nausea
- diarrhea
- cold-like symptoms, such as stuffy nose, sinus pain, sneezing, or cough
- alterations in shape or location of body fat
Combivir has also been shown to cause more serious side effects such as:
- fever
- chills
- body aches
- flu-like symptoms
- sore in mouth or throat
- pale skin
- light-headedness
- rapid heart rate
- trouble concentrating
- easy bruising or unusual bleeding
- tremor
- anxiety
- purple or red pinpoint spots under skin
- goiter
- unexplained weight loss
- decreased sex drive
- problems with walking, breathing, speech, swallowing, or eye movement
- sever lower back pain
- jaundice
- dark urine
- pancreatitis
- severe skin reaction

- Combivir may cause an increased risk for lactic acidosis, which is the build-up of lactic acid within the body that can prove to be fatal.
- Patients taking Combivir should not be in the presence of people who are ill or suffering from infections, as it is easier for patients to receive these infections.
- Conflicting studies have suggested that Combivir may pose an increased risk of heart attack when combined with the medication abacavir.
- Combivir may cause muscle disorders, and can also interfere with the body's ability to produce blood cells. Tell you doctor if you have a history of muscle disease or swelling, or a history of anemia or bone marrow problems.

Combivir | lamivudine and zidovudine is a combination nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals as an oral tablet. Combivir works to prevent the reproduction of HIV in the body by interfering with the virus’ ability to grow and spread.
Combivir | lamivudine and zidovudine has been approved for the treatment of
- HIV (which causes the AIDS virus) when used alone or when combined with other medications.
- The prevention of complications that can arise
Combivir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, and will not prevent the spread of the infection between other people.
