Serious Side Effects of Doribax
- seizures (convulsions)
- paleness of the skin and extreme fatigue and dizziness
- becoming more susceptible to bruising and irregular bleeding
- bowel problems including persistent diarrhea or diarrhea that has water or blood in it
- strong stomach cramps or abdominal pain
- difficulty breathing
- a new infection
- fever (temperature of 100°F or higher), chills, soreness of the throat, persistent and severe headache accompanied by skin problems such as peeling, blistering or a rash
- serious allergic reaction: hives, redness or itching of the skin, a skin rash, inflammation of the tongue, throat, mouth, lips or face

Doribax and Pregnancy
Doribax has been categorized as a U.S. Food and Drug Administration
pregnancy Category B drug. The FDA
does not expect Doribax to be a threat to the fetus if taken by a woman who is pregnant. It is unknown whether or not this medication may pass through breast-milk. Before receiving Doribax, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
General Warnings
Do not take Doribax if you have an allergy to doripenem or similar medications. Notify your doctor know about your medical history and if you have:
- any allergies, especially to any other antibiotics especially penecillin antibiotics
- kidney disease
- any seizure-causing disorder such as epilepsy
Patients should know that Doribax may increase the risk of
Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
Doribax Drug Interactions
Tell your doctor about all medicines you are currently using. Doribax may be dangerous when taken along with other drugs which may interact with the medicine such as
valproic acid or probenecid.
Doribax Treatment and Use
Doribax | doripenem is a carbapenem antibiotic medication marketed by Janssen-Cilag International for treating or preventing various bacterial infections. Doribax may be effective as a treatment for:
- pyelonephritis (an infection of the bladder or or kidneys)
- stomach infections
- urinary tract infections
- complex abdominal infections
Doribax is not approved to treat pneumonia (a lung infection) and does not treat viral infections.
How Does Doribax Work?
Doribax works by decreasing the ability of proteins to bind, a process necessary for bacteria to survive in the body. This prevents proper formation of the cells and kills bacteria.
Doribax Dosage Information
Doribax is administered as an injection into the vein. Doribax comes in doses of 250 mL and 500 mL vials. Treatment is generally given between 5 days and 14 days. Doribax comes in powder form to be combined with a liquid before injection. Doribax may be administered by a doctor or nurse in a clinic setting or self-injected at home. Follow all labeled instructions if you have been asked to self-administer the medication at home.
Do not use Doribax in any other way than your doctor has prescribed for your case.
