Dyrenium Treatment and Use
Dyrenium | Triamterene is a water pill that is used to treat edema caused by a variety of conditions including congestive heart failure, kidney diseases, liver cirrhosis, and steroid use. This medication allows the body to get rid of excess water and sodium without losing potassium. When used with other diuretics, Dyrenium can be used as a treatment for high blood pressure.
How does Dyrenium work?
Dyrenium increases your body’s need to urinate. This gives the body more opportunity to get rid of excess salt and water. This decreases edema (swelling) in the arms, legs, and abdomen. It also clears fluids within the lungs, allowing the patient to breathe more easily.
Dyrenium Dosage Information
Dyrenium is taken orally either once or twice a day with water after a full meal. To avoid sleep interruption to use the bathroom, it is suggested that Dyrenium is taken during the daytime.
While taking Dyrenium, reduce your salt intake and do not consume more potassium than usual. Bananas and orange juice are sources high in potassium.
A gradual decrease of dosage may be required. If you stop taking this medication suddenly, your may experience a worsening in condition.
