Esidrix Treatment and Use
Esidrix | hydrochlorothiazide is a diurectic, or “water pill”, marketed by Novartis for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and reducing the retention of water in the body (edema). Esidrix may be prescribed to patients with the following conditions which may have excess fluids in the blood:
- poor liver function (cirrhosis)
- failure of the kidney
- congestive heart failure (the heart is unable to pump blood throughout the body)
- usage of certain medications and treatments
How Does Esidrix Work?
Esidrix works by stimulating the kidney and increasing the removal of salts and fluids from the blood. These excess fluids are excreted through urine, and amounts of fluid in the blood are decreased. This results in a lowering of blood pressure.
How to Use Esidrix
Esidrix comes in tablet or capsule form to be taken orally. Do not crush or bite down on tablets; tablets may be split for smaller doses. Otherwise, swallow Esidrix whole with a full glass of water. Take only the amount prescribed to you by your doctor. Your doctor may recommend that you take Esidrix in the morning since it may increase the need to urinate.
For lowering blood pressure, the initial dose of Esidrix usually begin at 25 mg once each day. As the patient adjusts to the medicine, it is typically suggested that they take 50 mg of Esidrix daily.
Patients using Esidix for reducing fluid retention may be prescribed to take between 25 mg and 100 mg per day depending on their condition and medical history.
