Femara | letrozole is a nonsteroidal aromatose inhibitor manufactured by Novartis, and distributed as an oral tablet. Femara works to decrease estrogen levels produced in women who have experienced menopause, and slows the growth of certain kinds of breast cancer that feed on estrogen.
Femara has been approved for the treatment of
- Advanced breast cancer that has improved after anti-estrogen therapy
- Early stages of breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have previously used tamoxifen after surgery
- Initial stages of hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer after surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation to reduce the risk of cancer returning
