Using Fentora with CNS (Central Nervous System) depressants and cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitors can increase depressing effects which include hypoventilation, hypotension and intense sedation. It is strongly urged to use caution in administering Fentora with patients with chronic pulmonary disease or any preexisting conditions which can leave them susceptible to respiratory depression and in patients with intracranial effects of CO2 retention. It is also advisable to use Fentora with caution in patients with bradyarrhythmias. This medication is not recommended for use in patients who might have received MAO inhibitors within 14 days as there have been severe and unforeseen effects by MAO inhibitors reported with opioid analgesics. As of yet, there hasn't been a recall of Fentora by the FDA. Fentora Treatment and Use
Fentora | fentanyl citrate is used to treat sudden fits of pain endured by cancer patients who otherwise take regular doses of other forms of pain medication and who also might become tolerant to other narcotic pain medications.
Its drug classification is that of a narcotic analgesic. It works by altering the way that the brain and nervous system respond to this kind of pain. It is 100 times more potent than morphine, so doctors must use utmost caution whenever it comes to administering Fentora.
Given this significant effect upon the patient, Fentora can only be given to patients enrolled in the TIRF REMS (Transmucosal Immediate-Release Fentanyl Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) Access program and can only be administered to adult patients.
The dosing of Fentora comes in tablets of 100 mcg, 200 mcg, 400 mcg, 600 mcg, and 800 mcg strengths. Fentora is currently marketed by Cephalon, Inc., which is a subsidiary of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd.
