Flovent HFA and Pregnancy
Flovent HFA has been listed as an FDA
pregnancy Category C drug. It has not been determined if Flovent HFA may cause harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy or if it may pass through the breast-milk and harm a nursing child. Consult your doctor before taking Flovent HFA if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
General Warnings
Long-term steroid use has been linked with
osteoporosis, and those who smoke, do not exercise, or do not receive enough vitamin D or calcium through their diets should consult their doctor about their increased risk.Flovent HFA may affect a child's growth and should be used with caution in children.
Flovent HFA and the Immune System
Flovent HFA may
suppress the function of the immune system. Avoid coming in contact with or being around anyone who is sick or has an infection. If you have been near anyone who has the measles or chicken pox,
contact your doctor for medical attention and
preventative treatment.
Drug Interactions
Flovent HFA may not be safe to take in combination with certain medications. Let your doctor know about
all medicines you are currently using, such as:
- conivaptan a treatment for blood sodium deficiencies
- imatinib
- isaniazid which may be prescribed for treating symptoms of tuberculosis
- antibiotics or antifungals
- antidepressant medications
- treatments for heart disorders or blood pressure irregularities
- HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) or AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) treatments
Flovent HFA Treatment and Use
Flovent HFA | fluticasone inhalation is a corticosteroid inhalant medication manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline for preventing asthma attacks. Flovent HFA is intended for the treatment of asthma in patients four years of age or older, the lowest minimum dose should be prescribed to patients between the ages of 4 and 11.
Flovent HFA will not stop an asthma attack that is already in progress, and should not be used as a replacement for a rescue inhaler.
How Does Flovent HFA Work?
Asthma attacks cause an inflammatory reaction in the in the body as a response to different allergens. Flovent HFA works by decreasing the swelling of airways in the lungs, and fighting the inflammation that causes swelling.
Flovent HFA Dosage Information
Flovent HFA is available as an inhalant to be administered with an inhaler device. Doctors generally prescribe Flovent HFA to be taken in two inhalations, twice each day in 44 mcg doses. Follow all instructions given to you by your doctor on using Flovent HFA. Flovent HFA has packaged instructions on how to properly administer this medication. Flovent HFA should not be used in response to an asthma attack that has already started.
Notify your healthcare provider if your symptoms have not been reduced in two weeks.
