Gaviscon Treatment and Use
Gaviscon | alginic acid, aluminum hydroxide, and magnesium carbonate is an antacid marketed by GlaxoSmithKline for treating symptoms of excess levels of acid in the stomach. Gaviscon may be used to treat:
- stomach ulcers
- heartburn (indigestion)
- gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Gaviscon may also reduce symptoms of an upset stomach or acid indigestion (sour stomach).
How Does Gaviscon Work?
Gaviscon works by releasing a combination of three products into the stomach: alginic acid, aluminum hydroxide, and magnesium carbonate. Alginic acid, a seaweed algae extract, prevents acid damage to the body by forming a foam layer on the lining of the stomach. Aluminum and magnesium complete the process by reducing acid production in the stomach to decrease symptoms of high acid levels.
How to Take Gaviscon
