Hytrin Side Effects
- weakness
- tiredness
- stuffy or runny nose
- back pain
- nausea
- weight gain
- decreased libido
- blurred vision
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- pain, burning, numbness, or tingling in the hands or feet
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- hives
- rash
- itching
- shortness of breath
- rapid, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
- painful erection of the penis that can last for hours
Warnings & Recalls for Hytrin
Before taking Hytrin,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to terazosin, doxazosin, or prazosin, or any other medications.
- tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, and vitamins and supplements that you’re taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: medications for erectile dysfunction and other medications for high blood pressure.
- be sure to tell your doctor if you have or have ever had prostate cancer.
- if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Hytrin. If you need to have eye surgery at any time during or after your treatment, be sure to tell your doctor that you are taking or have taken Hytrin.
In July of 2009, the FDA approved safety labeling changes of the drug Hytrin to inform the public that use with a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor can result in additive blood pressure lowering effects and symptomatic hypotension.
Hytrin Treatment and Use
Hytrin | Terazosin is a selected alpha 1 antagonist that’s used for the treatment of enlarged prostate. Its also used to lower blood pressure, hence it’s a drug of choice for men with both enlarged prostate and hypertension. Hytrin works by blocking the action of adrenaline on the blood vessel walls and the smooth muscle of the bladder. It is manufactured by Abbott Laboratories. Hytrin comes as a capsule to take orally at least once or twice a day and the dosage is meant to incrementally increase as per the guidelines of a patient’s physician.
