Serious side effects of Incivek
- severe skin reactions like rashes, yellow skin and eyes, blisters in mouth/throat, pale skin with skin pain and a red/purple spreading rash that blisters and peels
- swelling of the face or tongue, red, swollen and burning eyes,
- fever mixed with sore throat and shortness of breath
- weakness and dizziness, with lightheadedness and anemia
- rapid heart rate, a decrease in urination and muscle injury

- Itching and hemorrhoids including itching/burning in the anus area and a mild skin rash
Warnings & Recalls for Incivek
Patients should tell their doctor if they have ever had hepatitis B or any liver and kidney problems, have ever had anemia or an organ transplant, if the patient has ever had HIV or AIDS, immune system problems, has ever had gout or if the patient has unsuccessfully used medication for hepatitis.The three-drug combination of ribavirin, Incivek and peginterferon alfa may increase the risk for serious muscle injury that can lead to kidney failure. Contraindications:Contraindications for Incivek include alfuzosin, atorvastatin, alprazolam, anticoagulants, antifungal medications, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, ergonovine, methylergonovine, cisapride, lovastatin, midazolam, pimozide, rifampin, sildenafil, simvastatin, oral contraceptives, seizure medications, steroids, HIV medications, St. John's wort, calcium channel blockers, immunosuppressants, antihistamines, irregular heartbeat medications, triazolam and tadalafil. Family Planning:Male and female patients are recommended to find alternate non-hormonal contraceptives, as Incivek may cause problems in normal birth control methods like the pill, patches, implants rings and injections. Patients are still expected to use alternate means up to 6 months after the patient has completed their dosage.Male patients should not use Incivek with ribavirin and interferon alfa if their sexual partner may be pregnant as it can harm the fetus.Ribavirin can harm the fetus and without it Incivek is useless therefore this drug should not be used in pregnant women.It is unknown if Incivek will pass into breast milk so the nursing mother is advised to proceed with caution unless told to stop the drug by a physician.

What is Incivek?
Incivek | Telaprevir is a protease inhibitor used for the treatment of hepatitis C in conjunction with ribavirin and peginterferon alfa. It is used in patients who have already tried other means to treat their illness, including using ribavirin and peginterferon alfa alone.
How does Incivek work?
Incivek works by decreasing the occurrence of hepatitis C virus cell multiplication. It may not prevent the spread of hepatitis C to others.
Dosage information for Incivek
Incivek is produced in 750 mg tablet size to be taken by mouth. The recommended dosage of Incivek is 3 tablets a day, 7-9 hours apart with at least 20 grams of fat that has been consumed 30 minutes prior to taking Incivek.
The three part treatment is usually administered for 12-48 weeks.
