Lantus Treatment and Use
Lantus | insulin glargine [rDNA origin] injection is a once-daily, long lasting, prefilled injection pen made by sanofi-aventis U.S. LLC. that is indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes in adults and children and type 2 diabetes in adults.
This medication is not recommended for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. If you are suffering from this condition, intravenous short-acting insulin is indicated.
How Lantus Long-Acting Insulin works
This treatment gives the diabetes sufferer level amount of insulin in the body. This mimics the normal pancreatic secretion of insulin.
Lantus administration
The Lantus insulin injection pen has a pre-filled syringe that should be injected into the body at the same time daily.
When administering, keep the injection button pressed all the way down and count to 10 to ensure that all of the drug has been injected into the patient.
An instruction leaflet comes with the injection pen. To ensure that the patient gets the recommended dose of insulin, that individual or their caregiver should familiarize themselves with the directions on the leaflet.
