- Long duration of being bed-ridden after major surgery
- High blood pressure
- Severe and uncontrolled high blood pressure

- Angina
- Disease of the arteries of the heart
- Blood clots in the lung
- Heart valve disease
- Stroke
- Obstruction of blood vessels by blood clots
- Blood clots in veins
- Blood clots in deep veins
- Liver problems
- Disease of the gallbladder
- Yellowing of skin or eyes from bile flow problems
- Bleeding that’s not related to menstrual periods
- Jaundice associated with pregnancy
- High blood sugar
