Severe Side Effects of Mavik
- Mavik has caused stroke in some patients.
- Mavik may raise serum uric acid which may cause kidney failure.
- Severe swelling (angioedema) may result from taking Mavik. If this occurs, call 911 and get help as soon as possible.
- Mavik may lower the white blood cell count in some patients and cause serious infection.
Common Side Effects of Mavik
- The most common side effects of Mavik are cough, dizzy spells, and low blood pressure.
- Mavik may also cause loose stools, arrhythmia, stomach pain, muscle weakness,
- Mavik may temporarily cause impotence and lower sex drive.

Black Box Warning for Mavik
- Mavik is a class D pregnancy category drug and may cause kidney failure in unborn infants, especially during the second and third trimesters. Immediately stop taking Mavik if you find out that you are pregnant.
Other Warnings
- Dosage may need to be adjusted for renally impaired patients. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems before taking Mavik.
- Mavik raises potassium levels in the blood. Do not take potassium supplements or any salt substitutes which contain potassium.
- Mavik may cause a severe drop in blood pressure if mixed with certain anesthetics. Tell your doctor you are on Mavic before undergoing surgery.
- When combined with a thiazide diuretic such as Hydrochlorothiazide, Mavik may cause a potentially fatal drop in blood pressure.
- Mavik may be unsafe for children.
Contraindications include:
- diuretics
- lithium and tetracycline
- blood pressure medications, and angiotensin II receptor blockers
- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs; e.g., indomethacin)
- potassium inducing drugs
Mavik Treatment and Use
Mavik | Trandolapril is an ACE inhibitor that is commonly prescribed for high blood pressure. Mavik is marketed by Abbot Laboratories and manufactured by Halo Pharmaceutical Inc. The generic Trandolapril is widely available.
What does Mavik do?
Mavik works to lower blood pressure and may possibly prevent heart failure by relaxing blood vessels, making the heart pump more easily.
Dosage
The initial dosage for hypertension is 1 mg once a day. Dosage may be increased after a week. The usual maintenance dose is 2-4 mg daily. Do not exceed 8 mg a day. Mavik is available in 1 mg, 2 mg, and 4 mg tablets.
