Serious Side Effects
- Weight changes such as swelling or rapid weight gain
- Mood or mental changes such as severe depression, unusual thoughts or behavior
- Gastrointestinal complications such as bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood;
- Symptoms of pancreatitis such as severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting or elevated heart rate
- Signs of low potassium such as confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling
- Dangerously high blood pressure symptoms including severe headache, blurred vision, buzzing in ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, or seizure

Family Planning Warning
- Methylprednisolone has not been formally assigned to a pregnancy category by the FDA and data on the effects of corticosteroids on a human fetus is limited. Because of this, this drug should only be taken by pregnant women if the benefit to the mother outweighs potential harm to the fetus.
- While there is no data on the excretion of methylprednisolone into human milk, some corticosteroids have been known to pass into breast milk and cause growth suppression and other adverse side effects in the infant. For the safety of the infant, a decision should be made to discontinue breast feeding or discontinue the drug.

- Occular herpes or other eye diseases
- Emotional instability or psychotic tendencies
- Bleeding problems
- Osteoporosis

- Seizures

- seizure medications such as phenytoin (Dilantin) or phenobarbital (Solfoton)
- grapefruit or grapefruit juice
