Severe side effects of Nasonex

Nasonex may cause glaucoma in some patients. Immediately report any vision changes to your doctor while you are taking Nasonex.
Fungal infection in the nose and throat.
Depression, anxiety, and extreme mood swings may occur while taking Nasonex.
Increased chance of infection due to weakened immune response.
Nasonex may cause reduced production of steroid hormones in the adrenal glands.
Nasonex may cause Cushing's syndrome, which is when the adrenal glands produce too much cortisol.

Common side effects of Nasonex

Headache, nosebleed, inflammation of the throat, coughing, and bloody mucus are the most common side effects.
Nasonex users may also experience muscle pain, bloody mucus, and increased menstrual pains while using this medication.

Like other steroidal medications, Nasonex may suppress the immune system and lower your ability to fight infections.
Nasonex may cause sores or wounds to heal more slowly. If you have a wound or sore on your nose, quit taking Nasonex until it heals.
Nasonex is a pregnancy category class C drug and may be dangerous for use during pregnancy. In lab animals, it has caused birth defects or malformations, such as cleft palate and hydrocephaly (fluid buildup inside the skull).
The patient should not use Nasonex if he or she has an infection (viral, bacterial, fungal), tuberculosis, or herpes in the eye. The medication might make these conditions worse.
Nasonex may cause stunted growth in children under 12.

Nasonex Treatment and Use

Nasonex | mometasone nasal inhalation is a corticosteroid used to treat nasal congestion caused by inflammation and seasonal allergies. Nasonex is also used to treat nasal polyps, which have a higher chance of occurrence in patients who suffer from allergies. Nasonex is manufactured by Schering-Plough Corporation under Merck Pharmaceuticals and was approved for sale in 1997.

What does Nasonex do?

Nasonex works to treat inflammation in the nasal passages. The drug works similarly to other steroidal medications by lowering the immune response, which reduces inflammation in the body.

Dosage

Nasonex comes in 100 microliter spray inhalers and contains 50 mcg of mometasone furorate. The usual adult dosage is two sprays in each nostril once a day. For children under 12, one spray in each nostril daily is recommended.
