Orencia | Abatacept injection has been shown to cause side effects such as
- nausea
- diarrhea
- stomach pain
- indigestion
- headache
- dizziness
- cold-like symptoms, such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, or cough
- back pain
Warnings & Recalls for Orencia
- Patients taking Orencia should not take a "live" vaccine during, or at least 3 months after you stop treatment. The effectiveness of the vaccine can be severely decreased during this period.
- Orencia can result in incorrect results on blood glucose tests, and blood sugar may appear higher than it actually is. Those with diabetes should be particularly cautious of this side effect.
- Those who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should consult with their doctor before continuing with Orencia treatment, as it is unknown whether this medication can have any effects on a newborn.

Orencia | Abatacept injection is a selective costimulation modulator, or immunomodulator, manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb as a powder that is mixed with sterile water and infused intravenously. Orencia is a synthetic protein which works to prevent cells in the immune system, known as T-cells, from mistakenly attacking healthy tissue.
