Warnings & Recalls for Privigen

The use of immune globulin intravenous products, especially those with sucrose, have been shown to increase the risk of:

renal dysfunction
renal failure
asmotic nephropathy
death

Patients with known renal impairments, the elderly, and those who are taking other drugs that may effect cause renal problems should be prescribed the smallest dose possible. Privigen is made from human blood products and the risk of disease transmition cannot be completely eliminated.

Privigen Treatment and Use

Privigen | immune globulin is a 10% intravenous immune globulin that is stabalized with proline that is produced by the company CSL Behring. It is derived from human plasma and contains antibodies that help protect patients from infection and disease.

Privigen is used to treat the following immunodeficiency conditions:

humoral immune deficiency in common variable immune-deficiency (CVID)
X-linked agammaglobulinemia
congenital agammaglobulinemia
Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome
severe combined immunodeficiencies

How does Privigen work?

Although it is not known exactly how Privigen treats patients with immunodeficiencies, trials have shown that immune globulin provides patients with defenses against a variety of pathogens.

Privigen administration

Privigen is given as an IV infusion in a clinical setting by trained healthcare providers.
In patients with renal impairments, Privigen should be given at the lowest dose possible to avoid further renal problems.
