Procardia Treatment and Use
Procardia chest pain treatment
Procardia | nifedipine is a drug produced by Pfizer that is used to treat different types of angina, or chest pain. It belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers (see adalat)and works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing the supply of oxygen to the heart. This in turn decreases the symptoms of chest pain that come from over worked and under oxygenated blood vessels.
This drug is also sometimes used to treat Raynaud’s syndrome, a condition that restricts blood flow to the extremities and may result in amputation in its most extreme cases.
It should be noted that Procardia is used to treat angina, while Procardia XL is used to treat both angina and high blood pressure (hypotension). Only Procardia XL can treat both conditions. Do not use Procardia to treat high blood pressure, as this drug can actually increase heart rate.
