Subsys Treatment and Use
What is Subsys?
Subsys is a form of sublingual spray used to treat patients with breakthrough cancer pain. Breakthrough cancer pain is often described as intense, almost sudden, moments of pain, that sometimes last as long as 5 or 7 minutes. Subsys is an opioid. It contains the medicine fentanyl. Subsys is usually given as a last defense against breakthrough cancer pains, after the body becomes used to or immune to other pain treatments and their effects.
Dosing Information
Do not use more than what is prescribed. Because of Subsys’ pain killing effects, it is easy to abuse. It is likely that your doctor will start you off on a very minimal dosage of Subsys, because of it’s powerful effects. Do not up your dosing without permission from your health care provider.
Take one dose of Subsys in concurrence with breakthrough pain episodes. If pain does not cease, consult your doctor, and if approved, take another dose of Subsys.
