Toprol Treatment and Use
Toprol | Metoprolol is a beta-blocker medication marketed by Par Pharmaceutical for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina). Toprol may be used by itself or along with other drugs for the following:
- decreasing blood pressure
- reducing the risk of a heart attack
- increasing recovery after an acute heart attack
- treating heart failure
- preventing strokes
- decreasing possibility of kidney problems
Toprol may also be prescribed for reducing symptoms of migraines and irregular heart rates.
How Does Toprol Work?
Toprol prohibits blood vessels from constricting the flow of blood and, instead, widens and relaxes the muscles. This leads to an increased, steady flow of blood and improved efficiency of heart functions. By increasing the health of the heart, patients may also benefit from reduced chest pain, increased ability to exercise and the prevention of life-threatening disorders.
