How This Drug Works
Estrogens are known to regulate the transcription of a limited amount of genes. They act by binding to the nuclear receptors of estrogen-responsive tissues of women. Estrogens are also known to moderate the pituitary secretion of gonadotropins, follicle stimulating hormones and also the luteinizing hormones. Estrogens do this through a negative feedback mechanism which reduces levels of these certain hormones evident in postmenopausal women. Estradiol is the primary intracellular human estrogen and is exponentially more potent than its metabolites at the receptor level.
