Vytorin Treatment and Use
Vytorin | Ezetimibe/simvastatin is a drug that’s been coproduced by the two drug companies Merck & Co. and Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals. It is a drug that’s used to treat abnormally high levels of cholesterol and fat in the blood of patients.
Ezetimibe acts to reduce cholesterol in the blood by inhibiting absorption of cholesterol in the small intestines by acting at the border of the intestine in inhibiting cholesterol absorption, which leads to a decrease in intestinal cholesterol being delivered to the liver.
Simvastatin is known as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, or commonly referred to as a statin. This part of the composition of the drug works to block an enzyme that’s necessary for the human body to produce cholesterol.
With the synthesis of the two drugs, in medical science this drug is referred to as the drug “of last resort” and is almost never prescribed without a thorough evaluation and doctors’ consent.
