Serious side effects
- a rash of red welts on the patients skin that itch and swell, hives
- hypotension, anaphylactic shock, with abnormal heartbeat and tightness of the chest
- an antibody formation that might reverse Wilate's effectiveness
Common side effects
- dizziness with restlessness and tingling
- burning and stinging at the injection site with chills, skin swelling, and headache
- drowsiness, restlessness, wheezing and nausea
Warnings & Recalls for Wilate
Wilate is not intended to prevent bleeding or hemophilia A.
Patients should be tested regularly to be sure that antibody formation has not occurred and to be sure that the patient is not receiving excessive amounts of von Willebrand factor.
Contraindications:
Wilate is contraindicated in desmopressin, a synthetic hormone that reduces urination.
Family Planning:
It is unknown whether Wilate will cause harm to the fetus, therefore pregnant mothers should talk with their doctor and weigh the benefits and risks.
It is unknown if Wilate passes through to breast milk so nursing mothers are advised to not use Wilate while breast feeding, or proceed with caution with the direction of their doctor.Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers

What is Wilate?

Wilate | von Willebrand factor/coagulation factor VIII complex is used as an intravenous injection for the treatment of spontaneous and trauma-induced bleeding in patients with von Willebrand disease. This disease is a bleeding disorder caused by low levels of von Willebrand factor, a crucial element in blood clotting.
How does Wilate work?
Wilate will help platelets bind to damaged blood vessels to help blood clotting and healing, and will also correct the deficiency of the von Willebrand factor.
Dosage information for Wilate
The dosage for Wilate will be determined by the patients physician. Wilate is packaged in vials of 450 IU and 900 IU.
