- dizziness
- joint or muscle pain
- ear pain
- hair loss
- itching or rash
- sore throat or cold-like symptoms
- redness, bruising, warmth, burning, itching, pain, or swelling at the point of injection
Warnings & Recalls for Xolair
- Xolair is not a replacement for an emergency inhaler, and will not stop an asthma attack that has already started.
- Some steroid medications may interact with Xolar and compromise its effectiveness. Consult your doctor if you experience any withdrawal symptoms, or if Xolair does not seem to be working to treat or prevent your asthma attacks.
- A serious, potentially life-threatening reaction can occur in those taking Xolair, and patients should be monitored for any of these symptoms within the first two dosages.
- Clinical studies showed that patients who take Xolair versus patients who did not had a greater likelihood for the development of breast, skin, prostate, and parotid cancer.
- Xolair may cause a sudden increase in a certain type of white blood cells, which can inflame the blood vessels, cause rash, worsening respiratory symptoms, heart issues, nerve pain, or weakness.
- The effects of Xolair on those who are pregnant or breastfeeding have not been studied, and you should consult your doctor before using this medication.
Xolair Treatment and Use
Xolair | Omalizumab injection is a monoclonal antibody manufactured by Genentech as a solution which is injected underneath the skin. Xolair blocks to activity of a naturally-produced substance known as IgE, which causes the symptoms of allergic reactions in the body, specifically those which are asthma-related.
Xolair | Omalizumab injection has been approved for the treatment of asthma-related allergies in adults and children at least 12 years of age or older. Xolair has also been used to decrease the amount of asthma attacks a patient experiences.
Although Xolair is usually prescribed to patients as a treatment to succeed where previous medications have failed, it should not be used as a rescue medicine, and will not treat an asthma attack after it has started.
