Xyzal | Levocetirizine is a drug whose classification is that of a non-sedative antihistamine. This drug is prescribed to treat allergic reactions such as runny nose, irritation of the eyes, and sneezing caused by seasonal allergies, hay fever, and other allergies to substances like animal dander, mold or dust mites. This drug also treats symptoms of hives such as itching and rash. Xyzal | Levocetirizine comes as a pill to take orally.
How This Drug Works
Xyzal | Levocetirizine actively works by inhibiting and blocking histamine receptors. This drug doesn’t prevent the release of histamines from mast cells, however it prevents the binding of histamines to receptors. This causes the prevention of the release of other allergy chemicals and leads to increased blood supply to the area, providing relief from symptoms.
Dosage
The recommended dosage of Xyzal | Levocetirizine for children over the age of 12 and adults is about 5mg once daily in the evening. For children ages 6 to 11, the dosage is should be about 2.5mg.
