Zosyn Side Effects
- Swelling
- Redness
- Pain or soreness at the injection site may occur

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including:
- Muscle cramps or spasms
- Swelling of the arms, legs, hands or feet
- Easy bruising or bleeding,
- Chest pain
- Confusion
- New signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat)
- Severe abdominal/stomach pain
- Slow/fast/irregular heartbeat
- Persistent nausea or vomiting
- Seizures
- Extreme tiredness
- Dark or cloudy urine or change in the amount of urine
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Severe intestinal damage
Warnings & Recalls for Zosyn
If you have any of the following conditions, you should not have Zosyn administered to you:
- Mono
- Kidney disease
- Severe bloody diarrhea from antibiotics
- Severely decreased levels of neutrophils in the blood
- Blood clotting disorder
On September 19, 2006, the FDA entered a docket in a court to determine whether Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Inc. discontinued its original formulation of Zosyn for reasons unrelated to safety and efficacy. In November 21, 2007, Wyeth had launched a voluntary recall of 120 vials of Zosyn for reasons of lack of assurance that the vials were in quality compliance.
Zosyn Treatment and Use
Zosyn | Piperacillin/tazobactam is a combined antibiotic which contains the extended-spectrum penicillin piperacillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor tazobactam. Zosyn is commercially available in the US by the drug company Wyeth and is mainly used in intensive care medicine for pneumonia and peritonitis, empirical therapy in febrile neutropenia typically after chemotherapy, and for some diabetes-related foot infections. It is administered as an injection.
