Warnings & Recalls for Velcade
- Those who have heart disease, or are at a high risk for it, need to be closely monitored while taking Velcade, as it can worsen heart rhythm problems or potentially cause heart failure.
- Patients who take Velcade will need to have regular blood tests to ensure the cell counts are at normal levels, as this medication can cause low levels of white blood cells and platelets.
- Female patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking Velcade.
- Velcade has been shown to cause low blood pressure, lung disorders, and conditions known as peripheral neuropathy, tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), and reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS).
- Patients who suffer from liver disease may have trouble expelling Velcade from their bodies. There have also been reports of sudden liver failure in patients taking multiple medications in conjunction with Velcade, as well as those with other serious medical conditions.
