Afinitor Treatment and Use
Votrient | Everolimus | Afinitor is used to treat advanced stages of renal cell carcinoma, a cancer that starts in the kidneys, if other treatments or medications have failed. It is also used in the treatment of a type of brian tumor that cannot be treated with surgery. In conjunction with other medications, Votrient | Everolimus is used in the prevention of transplant rejection, for kidney transplant patients.
How it Works
Afinitor | Everolimus fights cancer by stopping or slowing the cancer cells from spreading, as well as cutting off the blood supply to the cells with cancer. It also decrease immune system activity.
Dosage Information
Talk to your doctor to find out if Afinitor is right for you. Afinitor is taken in tablet form, by mouth, once a day. If used in the prevention of transplant rejection, Afinitor is taken up to two times a day, or every 12 hours. The drug should be taken at the same time, the same way, either with food always, or without food always.
Consult your doctor before making alterations in your dosage. You may stop treatment if you experience threatening side effects.
