- On October 3, 2012, the FDA released a statement recalling its approval of Budeprion XL as a generic equivalent of Wellbutrin XL. The FDA found that Budeprion XL did not release at the same rate as Wellbutrin XL, making it much less effective in many patients. The recall does not apply to 150 mg Budeprion.
Budeprion XL Black Box Warnings
- Antidepressants can increase thoughts of suicide in patients younger than 24 years old. Your doctor may require regular check-ups to monitor your progress while you begin your antidepressant treatment.
- In some patients, this medication may worsen or create psychiatric symptoms. Carefully monitor for and unusual or worsened anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks, irritability, hostility, impulsiveness, or other behavior or mood changes. Talk to your doctor if you experiene any of the listed symptoms.

- You should not take Budeprion XL if you have taken an MAOI in the past two weeks, have an eating disorder, or already use another form of bupropion.
