Cepacol Maximum Strength Lozenges, Dual Relief Spray and Mouthwash may rarely cause
serious side effects. If you experience any of the following you may have a severe allergic reaction and should call your doctor
immediately:
- Hives or a rash
- Swollen mouth, tongue, throat or face
- Trouble breathing
- Chest tension
Cepacol Dual Relief Spray can induce common symptoms such as:
- Fatigue
- Blurry vision
- Feeling dizzy
- Faintness
Common side effects caused by Cepacol include a
numbing of the mouth, tongue or throat. If these side effects persist, contact your healthcare provider at once.If your throat
continues to be irritated or inflamed, and you become nauseous, develop a high fever and a headache
contact your doctor promptly.

Warning: Some products may contain high levels of sugar. If you have
diabetes ask your doctor if Cepacol is right for you.
Do not give any form of Cepacol other than
Cepacol Fizzlers to children under the age of 5.Cepacol is
generally considered safe for pregnant women to use. However, ask your doctors about the risks and benefits of using Cepacol when
pregnant or
breastfeeding.Before taking Cepacol,
tell your doctor if you:
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- have any allergies to any ingredients in Cepacol
- are taking any other medications for a sore throat or ache in the mouth
- have diabetes
Cepacol Treatment and Use
Cepacol | Benzocaine and menthol is a topical anesthetic marketed by Reckitt Benckiser to reduce soreness or pain in the throat or mouth. Cepacol may be used for treating:
- Slight gum or mouth irritation
- Soreness of the throat
- Reduce swelling of the throat or mouth
- Decrease coughing
- Bacterial buildup (causing bad breath)
- Toothaches or Canker sores
Cepacol comes in a variety of flavors and forms including lozenges, mouthwash or spray.
How Does Cepacol Work?
Cepacol mouth spray and lozenges block nerve receptors in the throat or mouth. By interfering with the nerves, Cepacol reduces pain and inflammation and causes numbness. Cepacol mouth wash contains the active ingredient cetylpyridinium chloride, which breaks down plaque buildup and eases the symptoms of gingivitis or bleeding in the mouth. This mouthwash also destroys germs that cause bad breath.
How Should Cepacol Be Taken?
Cepacol Maximum Strength Lozenges
- Allow lozenges to dissolve in your mouth
- Avoid chewing the lozenges
- Do not take more than one dose at a time. Take lozenges as prescribed by your doctor or as directed on label
Cepacol Dual Relief Spray
- Shake before using
- Spray directly into throat or onto the irritated area
- Do not take two doses at the same time. Do not use more than 4 times per day unless instructed to do so by your doctor.
Cepacol Mouth Wash
- Pour dose amount into measuring device
- Brush your teeth, then pour the mouth wash into your mouth. Do not swallow.
- Swish the fluid around your mouth for 45 seconds then
- Spit mouth wash into sink. Make sure not to swallow any mouth wash.
- Use as instructed by your doctor or recommended on the label
Is Cepacol Safe for Children?
Cepacol Fizzlers are safe for children between the ages of 5 and 12 as a topical anesthetic to reduce irritation of the mouth and throat. Cepacol Fizzlers should be placed on the tongue to dissolve quickly and relieve pain. Ask your doctor for dose information.
