Before taking
Concerta for ADD or
ADHD, tell your child’s or your physician about the following conditions:
- Any condition affecting your cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels). Concerta has caused sudden death in individuals who have taken this drug who suffer from serious heart problems.
- Tourette’s syndrome or uncontrollable ticks.
- Seizure disorder, or if you have had any brain wave tests that have come up as abnormal
- If you take any blood thinners, drugs for blood pressure, drugs affecting the brain or central nervous system, decongestant medicines.
Concerta Treatment and Use
Concerta | methylphenidate HCL is a drug produced by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. that is used to help control the symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) / Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). It is a psychostimulant medication that is also used to treat narcolepsy, substance abuse, and as adjunctive treatment for treatment resistant depression. Concerta deaths have been reported in certain individuals with certain conditions, so it is important for you to speak to your doctor about all of the risks associated with taking this drug.
Concerta for ADD / ADHD dosage
Generally, treatment with Concerta | methylphenidate HCL is begun with a low dose and can be taken with or without food. For children and adolescents aged 6-12, the dose is 18 mg- 54 mg. For adolescents 13 to 17 years old, the dose is 18 mg to 72 mg once daily. For adults 18 to 65, the daily dose is 18 to 72 mg once a day.
