- If you experience unexplained bruising or bleeding or aches in your joints stop taking Cotrim and contact your doctor.
- Get medical attention if you develop a skin rash or feel excessively itchy.
- Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you start to have a sore throat, develop sores in your mouth, get a fever or the chills, or become pale or yellow.
Common Side Effects of Cotrim
- Cotrim may cause you to become more sensitive to sun exposure, so avoid being in sunlight for extended periods of time to prevent sunburn.
- You may become nauseated, lose your appetite, or vomit after taking Cotrim. If these symptoms become persistent, talk to your doctor.
- Cotrim can cause diarrhea, do not take any medication to stop this unless your doctor instructs you to do so. If your diarrhea is bloody or watery, contact your doctor.

- Prior to taking Cotrim, let your doctor know if you are allergic to any medication, including diuretics, diabetes medications, co-trimoxazole, or sulfa drugs.
- If you are taking any other medications, presciption or not, discuss them with your doctor before you start taking Cotrim. Methotrexate, phenytoin, and warfarin may interfere with the effectiveness of Cotrim.
- Talk to your doctor about any history of liver disease, kidney disease, or blood disorders, acute allergies, or asthma. You may not be able to take Cotrim.
- Do not take Cotrim if you are currently pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant.
- Cotrim should not be used for infants younger than two months old.

This includes infections within the ear, urinary tract, and intestines. It can also be used as a treatment for pneumonia and Traveler’s Diarrhea, which is often caused b consuming contaminated food or liquids abroad. Cotrim will not help against viral infections such as the common cold or the flu.

Cotrim is an antibiotic that kills off bacteria by starving them of the acids and enzymes they need to replicate. This stops infections from spreading and doing more damage to the effected systems of the body.
Cotrim Dosage Information
Cotrim is typically taken twice daily for most infections. However, your doctor may increase your dosage depending on the severity of your infection. To decrease the effects of an upset stomach, take Cotrim with a full glass of liquid or a meal.
Even if your symptoms clear, you must take Cotrim for the entire time your doctor has prescribed Cotrim to you. Not completing a prescribed treatment may cause your infection to return.
