Serious Adverse Side Effects
Feldene | Piroxicam has some very serious adverse side effects associated with it that can be quite hazardous, such as:
- Cardiovascular side effects such as congestive heart failure, heart attacks and other cardiovascular events
- Dermatological side effects such as erythroderma (an inflammatory skin disease), Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis, two deadly allergic skin reactions
- Endocrine metabolic side effects such as high blood potassium
- Gastrointestinal side effects such as intestinal hemorrhage, perforation of stomach, ulcers, inflammatory disorder of the digestive tract and pancreatic inflammation
- Hematological side effects such as lowered white blood cell count, lowered blood cell counts, anemia, and decrease of platelets in the blood
- Hepatic side effects such as the wasting of the liver, jaundice and liver failure
- Immunological side effects such as anaphlyactoid reactions, a deadly allergic reaction
- Neurological side effects such as stroke
- Renal side effects such as kidney failure
- Respiratory side effects such as constriction of the airways
- Other side effects such as transfusion reaction

- Otic side effects such as tinnitus, a condition where hearing is impacted
- Renal side effects such as abnormal kidney function

Black Box Warning
Feldene | Piroxicam has the following “black box” warning associated with it, denoting that NSAIDs can cause increased risks of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and stroke which can be fatal. This risk is especially heightened in patients with an established cardiovascular history. NSAIDs are also deadly in elderly patients as there’s a risk for gastrointestinal side effects such as bleeding, perforation of the stomach and ulcers which can prove to be fatal.
Contraindications
Feldene | Piroxicam is contraindicated in the following patients:
- Asthma, urticarial and allergic-type reactions have occurred following giving the patient aspirin
- Patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass graft surgery
- Patients with a hypersensitivity to Piroxicam

- Patients with a cardiovascular history
- Elderly patients
- Patients with asthma
- Patients with blood coagulation disorders

- Patients with peptic ulcer disease
- Patients with kidney disorders or impairments
Feldene Treatment and Use
Feldene | Piroxicam is a drug whose classification is that of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class. The FDA-labeled indications for this drug are meant to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Non-FDA labeled indications that are treated with Feldene | Piroxicam comprise of adjunct cancer pain, dental pain, dysmenorrhea, acute gouty arthritis, post-episiotomy pain, pain after operations, and soft tissue injury. This drug comes in pill form.
Feldene | Piroxicam is manufactured and marketed by Pfizer in the US. It is worth noting that this drug is also used in veterinary medicine to treat certain tumors from animals such as colon and bladder tumors and also prostate cancers.

How This Drug Works
The mechanism of action for Feldene | Piroxicam is that its status as a NSAID drug is thought to stop the body’s production of prostaglandin synthetase, a substance that causes fever, pain and inflammation.

With the administration of Feldene | Piroxicam, it is important to use the lowest and yet most effective dose for the shortest possible duration. A physician will monitor a patient extensively to observe their initial response, to possibly adjust the dosage and frequency with which a patient is given this drug to take.
