Gamunex Side Effects
Gamunex side effects and adverse reactions include:
- headache
- cough
- nausea
- sore throat
- flare up of anemia (very rare, effected one PI patient)
- back pain

Warnings & Recalls for Gamunex
- Gamunex carries with it a black box warning due to the risk of renal failure. If you currently suffer from a renal condition, tell your doctor before beginning treatment with Gamunex.
- There is an increased risk of hematoma formation with Gamunex, therefore it should not be administered subcutaneously.
- Tell your doctor if you suffer from a cardiovascular condition or if you have a history or predisposition to blood clots before you are treated with Gamunex intravenous immunoglubulin or ivig.
- Since Gamunex is made from human blood products, there is a risk of viral infection with this treatment.
Gamunex Treatment and Use
Gamunex is immunoglobulin therapy and can be administered as an intravenous immunoglobulin (ivig). This drug is produced by Talecris Biotheraputics and is a sterilized solution that comes from purified antibodies derived from human blood plasma.

How does Gamunex work?
For CIDP:
- Gamunex ivig gives the individual healthy antibodies to stop the workings of the immune system and inflammatory response that attacks and destroys myelin, a protective coating around nerve cells.
For PI:
- Gamunex gives patients treated for PI the antibodies they need to fight off infection
For ITP:
- With this condition, patients’ blood platelets are destroyed by certain antibodies. Gamunex ivig gives the patient antibodies that increase the blood platelet count to more normal levels.
