Intuniv Treatment and Use
Intuniv | Guanfacine is a drug that’s used as a part of a treatment to control ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This drug is in a class of medications called centrally acting selective α2A receptor agonist and also a sympatholytic. A variant of Guanfacine also treats high blood pressure while decreasing the heart rate and aids to the relaxation of blood vessels so that blood flow improves. Intuniv | Guanfacine is administered orally and comes as an extended-release formulation.
How This Drug Works
It treats ADHD by affecting the part of the brain that controls impulse and attention, specifically the prefrontal cortex and the locus coeruleus.
Dosage
Intuniv | Guanfacine comes in dosages of 1mg, 2mg, 3mg, and 4mg. It is recommended that children who take this drug should be administered from the lowest dosage to incremental higher dosages.
